The sailing distance between The Marina of Andijk and Urk is about 20 miles

Urk, once an island, is literally and metaphorically bursting with traditions and monuments that go back to the days that Urk had an ongoing struggle with the Zuiderzee. Urk's history can also be seen at the museum 't Oude Raadhuis; the feeling of living in a limited amount of space can be picked up during the annual Ginkiestocht.
Although many Urker fishermen took to farming after the reclamation of the Zuiderzee, Urk still has a flourishing fisching industry. the fish market, the lighthouse from 1844 and the impresive fishermen's monument... fascinating aspects of the fishermen's village Urk.
It is also known for its excellent fish restaurants, the folkoristic costume and the famous Urk choirs.
Every year at the evening prior to Ascension Day all the Urk choirs join together at the fish market to give a performance.
